School Visits

I'm available for school visits, either local to Colorado Springs or around the country. I love talking to English classes, theatre groups and creative writing clubs. As a professional playwright, I can provide a fascinating, real-world perspective on the writing life.

Here are just some of the topics I can speak on:
  • Careers in Writing
  • A Playwright's Journey, or 48 Years to Overnight Success
  • Five Ways to Punch Up Your Playwriting
  • Writing the 10-Minute Play (includes workshop)
  • The Three-Act Structure, or Why Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz Are Really the Same Movie

Or I can tailor something to your specific needs.

I charge $100 per class or $500 for a full day of classes. Travel and accommodations are extra. If this is too steep for your school, contact me. We'll get creative. A school in Kansas once put me up in an apartment (inside a seed warehouse!) that was donated by one of the parents. I'm flexible!

I can also do Skype sessions, either to field questions from students or to watch and comment on rehearsals. For these, I charge $50 an hour.

"Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for the experience you gave our students at FLHS today. I KNOW you had a great impact on the students. The workshop was wonderful. Thanks for taking the time and being a part of our students' lives." - Connie Garcia, Drama Teacher, Fort Lupton High School, Fort Lupton, CO

"Todd, we are immensely grateful that you could come to Leoti, KS, for this event, spending one day with our middle/high school students, and rehearsal with the cast. We learned so much, and we know you sparked a creative light in more than a few students. Thank you for this once in a lifetime experience, keep on writing those zany words, and we will look forward to doing this again!" - Janelle Downs, Director, Wichita County Arts Alliance, Leoti, KS.

"Mr. Wallinger's visit was a highlight of the year. He provided valuable real-world insights into the playwriting world in an entertaining and inspirational way. The students were highly involved and benefited greatly from his first-hand knowledge." - Jim Patrick, Drama Teacher, Pine Crest School, Fort Lauderdale, FL
